How do I find a job

How do I find a job Finding a new job is not an easy task.   It takes discipline and focus.   I read a story in the Buffalo newspaper yesterday about an  computer operator  who had been looking for work for over a year. The man was at a job fair looking for any job he could find. Yes, you have to give him credit, but his approach is all wrong.   He is over qualified and presented himself as such. I  hear these types of stories a lot.   The media tries to make us feel sorry for these people.   To an extent, I do.   But really, what has he been doing? Heres what youll do: Part 1- know your capabilities and be able to speak about them. I mean really speak about them, like a confident sales professional. Part 2- focus on who needs these talents.   Everyone does, just in different ways.   You need to investigate this more, talk to people in different industries and run some ideas by them about your capabilities and how they might fit.   Obviously, this is done through networking. Todayright nowmake a list of 50-75 companies you would like to work for.   These are companies that would hire you for the type of work you do, period.   They need not have posted openings for them to be on your list. Part 3- network your tail off-   using Parts 1 2. The more focused you are in what you are looking for and where you want to do it, the more successful your results will be.   You will have more meaningful conversations that can lead to opportunities. If you are having trouble with thisseek help.   Ask a librarian.   Use your states DOL website.   In NY, this link  will ask you to select an occupation and county and will list 75 employers who  have been known to hire this  kind of job. Now, have a backup plan. What could you do if you just had to work?    What job would you do?   Set the wheels in motion today for lining up this job.   It could be a friends business that needs some help with their accounting, or promoting their business, or running errands or making deliveries.   Think outside the box.   Think like you are your own business, what solution could you provide.   Again, thinking about who you know, is there a lesser opportunity within their company you could fill? With the right mind set, you could easily find enough work this way to have a total income of more than what youd be getting on unemployment. Get  creative, think outside the box, be hungry!   You need money.   What can you do that someone is willing  to pay for?   Be able to fully explain the financial value to them.    Present the solution  completely.

Starbucks, American Airlines Among Companies To Improve Parental Leave

Starbucks, American Airlines Among Companies To Improve Parental Leave In 2016, many companies announced drastically improved parental leave policies for U.S. employees, and this year, that trend seems to be continuing. Following in the footsteps of IKEA, American Express, and Exelon (among others), employers such asStarbucks, American Airlines, and Duke Energy announced enhanced policies in January.Starbucks has just announced that effective October 1, 2017, baristas working at least 20 hours per week who give birth will get six weeks of paid leave at 100% of their annual pay, an increase from the prior benefit of 67% of average pay over that time period, according to Fortune. Additionally, any benefits-eligible baristas who welcome a new child (a new father, a foster parent or by adoption), are eligible to take 12 weeks of unpaid leave.Fortune reports that Starbucks also boosted the benefits it offers for non-store partners (district managers, field partners, employees at the headq uarters), which under the new policy gives those new moms who give birth eligibility to receive a full 18 weeks of paid parental leave. Non-birth parents will also get 12 weeks of paid leave.Unlike nearly every other developed nation in the world, the U.S. does not guarantee paid parental leave -- so its up to individual employers to decide on their own programs. Yet while research shows a direct correlation between womens overall job satisfaction/employee zurckhalten rates and the amount of maternity leave taken, only 13% of U.S. employees get any kind of paid leave when they take time off from work to care for a new child. Thats why its particularly uplifting to hear that improved parental leave policiesin the U.S. have been making headlines a lot lately. At Fairygodboss, an online career community for women, were so excited about this trend that weve been keeping track, maintaining a list of the employers that have recently enhanced their paid leave programs to make them more gen erous and comprehensive. Days after Starbucks announced its new policy, CBS reported that beginning March 1, American Airlines will offer its employees 10 weeks of paid maternity leave. This news is particularly significant because the company doesnt currently offer paid time off to new mothers. Sources tell us that fellow airline Delta will also be implementing a new policy it will provide birth mothers with 6 weeks of paid maternity leave.Duke Energy, a North Carolina-based electric power holding company, has also announced that it will now -- for the first time -- provide its employees with fully paid parental leave. Effective since January 1, both mothers and fathers who work at Duke Energy can take six weeks of paid leave any time within the first 16 weeks after the birth, adoption or foster care placement of a child. Birth mothers may take a total of 12 paid weeks if they take advantage of both the companys existing, pregnancy-related short-term disability benefit and its new maternity leave benefit.According to their press release, Duke Energy hopes its new policy will bolster work-family balance and help attract and retain highly skilled workers.Remember to check out our data on companies that have recently expanded theirparental leave benefits and please contact us at infofairygodboss.com if you think theres a company weve missedFairygodboss is committed to improving the workplace and lives of women.Join us by reviewing your employer

How to Manage an Office Relocation - Spark Hire

How to Manage an Office Relocation - Spark HireAn office relocation is a huge undertaking, but its one that can improve the overall productivity of your business. In order to ensure that the transition goes as smoothly as possible, keep these tips in mindFirst, identify the overall goals behind the moveBefore you uproot your staff and start throwing things into boxes, take a few minutes to think about why the move is necessary. Have you outgrown the current space? Do you need something that the current office just cant provide? As you make these determinations, verify that the new office will meet your needs, allowing the company to continue to grow.Plan accordinglyThough a move is disruptive no matter when it happens, ideally you want to make sure this transition takes place during a time of year when youre not on your tightest deadlines. If you have a project that must be done by February 1st, its probably not wise to begin a move in January. Think about your business and your clie nts, and use these factors to schedule your relocation. This will help keep stress to a minimum.Keep everyone on the same pageIts easy for chaos to break out when youre in the midst of an office relocation. To prevent this from happening, make sure youre communicating closely with your staff. They should be aware of upcoming deadlines. For instance, if they need to clear out their desks by a certain time, make this known far in advance. If the offices computer system will be impacted during the move, make sure this is abundantly clear.Spend the money on professionalsNot only should you invest in a professional moving service to get the job done, but you may also want to consider hiring a project manager to help guide your business through the move. This helps to prevent important details from falling through the cracks, and prevents the entire process from becoming a major headache for you.How did you manage your offices relocation successfully?
